The kayak was designed as a swift a maneuverable hunting boat by the Inuits. The Inuits constructed a frame of wood and bones which was covered in hides. Particularly in Greenland the traditional way of kayak building is still used, whereas today mostly waterproof canvas is used as cover. The design used by the Inuits also depends on regional differences; in Alaska the kayaks are rather short and wide, in Greenland rather long and narrow. The Ka – i- ak is traditionally a closed –top boat for men, its counterpart the Umiak is an open-top boat for women. Similar to the kayak are the Baidarkas which are used at the Aleutian Islands. The Inuits also invented the so-called Eskimo roll (Kayak roll) which is a special technique to straighten up the kayak without getting out of it when overbalancing. Lake kayaking or kayaking in easy whitewater – everything is possible. Our light plastic kayaks with spray skirt, life vest and helmets meet all needs.
